SYMPOSIUM ON THE CLIMATE AND HEALTH CRISIS "Innovative Policies for Mitigation and Adaptation in the Health Sector"
This symposium, organized by the University of Barcelona/MútuaTerrassa Chair in Health and Climate Change, the Government of Catalonia, and the Spanish Ministry of Health, will take place on October 9 (Auditorium of the historic building of the University of Barcelona) and October 10 (Aula Magna of the Faculty of Biology of the UB, campus, Spanish and international).
During these days, experts will focus on the presentation and discussion of innovative health sector policies in two key areas for the fight against climate change:
- How to adapt our healthcare system to address the effects of climate change and environmental pollution on health, with special emphasis on public health strategies that protect the most vulnerable populations, especially those with chronic diseases.
- How to mitigate the environmental impact of the healthcare sector by addressing strategies such as energy efficiency, investment in green technologies, the use of sustainable transport, the circular economy, and collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry.
The symposium will aim to generate strategies and recommendations to strengthen the resilience of the healthcare system in front of climate change and environmental challenges. Within this framework, some of the most innovative initiatives and research being carried out both in Spain and at the European and international levels will be presented. Leading academic and research institutions (WHO, European Commission, etc.) will share their approach to health protection in the context of climate change.
The importance of this Symposium lies not only in the analysis of current challenges, but also in the joint development of solutions that strengthen our society's resilience to the impacts of climate change on public health.
